A few new things to check out

Hi there,

Today I have 3 things I want to share with you:

1) I got some happy mail. I don’t want to make you jealous BUT I couldn't keep this to myself. If you haven’t checked out Knit Pick's new yarn Twill, you have to give it a look. Twill is a beautiful and bouncy 100% merino 3-ply yarn. The structure provides a gorgeous stitch definition which is perfect for both garments and accessories, whether intricate cables or simple stockinette. Machine washable and soft enough for close to the skin, Twill is sure to be a fast favorite. There are so many great colors. It was so hard to choose but I seem to be in a yellow mood so got colorway, Gold Rush and making another Arisaema Shawl (bit.ly/Arisaema), a simple and quick to knit worsted weight shawl. So far I'm in love and can't recommend enough you getting a skein to try. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Try it and let me know what you think, link here>>> bit.ly/twillyarn

2) A new episode of Real Talk with Tian is out. Episode 7 is about pricing. If you're a design, dyer, tech editor, or maker of any kind, you've wondered about how you're pricing your offer. This episode is intended to give you some framework to help you think about how YOU might want to price your offer because this is your business, your pattern, your whatever and YOU get set the price. And just remember, price is never perfect or even permanent. You can see what works, pivot, and make adjustments whenever you want. If this is a topic you're interested in, please give it a listen and consider sharing with 5 of your friends you think could use the information.

3) Finally, if you find value in the free work I put out, consider supporting by becoming a Patreon.

That's it for now. Talk to you soon.

- Tian

My ultimate goal

💥My ultimate goal with my posts are to give you a honest look at the reality of making a living designing and tech editing.

💥My guess is that you love knitting and crocheting, and you’re hoping you can turn your hobby into a living.

No photo description available.
💥But it ain’t as easy as some people online like to spout.

💥I spend my days #techediting for major publications and indie designers, which basically means I have a front-row seat to the behind-the-scenes of what it ACTUALLY takes to write and publish high-quality #knit and #crochet #patterns.

💥I’m here to unveil just how much work it really takes - the time and energy, the cost - to be actually successful.

Pattern: Arisaema Shawl

Yarn: worsted weight

Do you finally want to start designing with a capital D? Do you want to see your name in major publications? If this is something you might be interested in, drop a ❤️in the comments and I’ll reach out  to see how we can help you level up.

I just want to get back to my knitting

Image may contain: text that says 'just want to get back to my knitting'
You say you just want to get back to your knitting and girl, me too, ME too. But I don’t have that luxury, so you won’t either.

You say you just want to get back to your knitting and girl, me TOO. But when you say that you JUST want to go back to your knitting, all I’m hearing is that you don’t care if I’m safe and included as long as you are NOT in discomfort. You don’t care about my DISCOMFORT. YOU have the privilege to exit the conversation UNDAMAGED whenever YOU want even while I’m forced to have this conversation over and over... while I’m reliving past traumas over and over... while I have to struggle to feel the barest minimum (nonexistence) of safety and inclusion doing this craft WE both love.

You say you just want to get back to your knitting and girl... me too, ME TOO. That knitting and crocheting is not political and we all just get along, but crafting has ALWAYS been political. When YOU can enjoy The privilege to just knit without fear and consequence while the rest of us are fighting to be seen, to be heard, to be a part of this community, this is political.

You say you just want to go back to your knitting and girl ME TOO. But you just going back to knitting as usual like nothing has happened, like nothing Is happening is erasing my and every BIPOC experience in this community (and beyond).

So girl, we ain’t never gonna let you JUST go back to YOUR knitting until WE ALL can go back to OUR knitting in a space that is safe and inclusive to all.

Avoiding trying something new because you are afraid of failing?

Hello there,

Have you ever had a project flop, big time? Have you avoided trying something new because you are afraid of failing?

I've been there, many times, trying something and then it not going as planned. But what's consistent, is that I tried... no regrets.

In this episode, we’re talking about a topic that affects all of us, whether you’re a designer or maker of any kind. And that topic is what to do when a design idea fails? Story of my life and maybe yours too. But despite failures and things not working out as expected, I’m never upset to have taken the risk in the first place REGARDLESS of the result.

I hope you were able to take away something from this episode. Read more + listen here>>> Real Talk with Tian podcast

I hope this episode resonates with you and that you're able to take away something.

If you enjoy the episode, I'd love your honest review. Please leave a 5-star rating and review. This will help to tell Itunes to show this podcast to other listeners who might need to hear this.

Talk to you soon.
- Tian
